EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach designed to reduce the impact of certain emotions or memories. EMDR does not require extensive discussion of the negative events. Unlike other treatment modalities, EMDR therapy focuses directly on the memory and how to change the way that memory is stored in the brain.
HOW DOES EMDR WORK?
I typically incorporate EMDR practices into all areas that we focus on in therapy. Although we will spend time talking and learning other skills, EMDR foundations will be incorporated throughout the ongoing therapeutic process to ensure you are reaching your highest growth possible. EMDR consists of 8 phases:
Although EMDR is well-known for its success in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), it is helpful for many other areas of mental health!
In addition to trauma, other areas of mental health that EMDR is found to be beneficial for include:
Anxiety
Panic disorders
Depression
Specific phobias
Grief and loss
Performance anxiety
Negative self-esteem
OCD
Chronic pain
Headaches
Addiction
